Cowboys and Indians is an account of life in Koraput, a small town in Odisha, India.
The hills around Koraput are home to many of India's indigenous tribal people, but in recent years mining companies have sparked a 'gold rush' for control of the valuable minerals in the land. In the process, thousands of people are being forced from their homes.
My name is Kevin E.G. Perry and I lived in Koraput for one year from July 2010 to June 2011 while working for Ekta, a rights-based development organisation supported by VSO.
The views expressed here are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of Ekta or VSO. Many of the articles were orginally published by the late, lamented development magazine Ctrl.Alt.Shift.
